Sign Permits
Broadly speaking, sign permits are required for four types of signs.
- First, on-site wall or ground signs relate to products, services, or activities on property at which the sign is located
- Second, off-site directional signs are intended to provide direction to a property other than where the sign is located
- Third, off-site billboards relate to products, services, or activities on property other than where the billboard is located
- Fourth, temporary signs are allowed for a variety of purposes, as further defined by the Sign Code at Chapter 7 of the Tallahassee Land Development Code.
Keep in mind that the Sign Code isn’t limited to only these four categories. There are additional types of signs defined by the Code. Sign permits can be applied for using the same application and required documentation, with the exception of the off-site directional sign permit, which requires additional information (Off-Site Sign Information Sheet).
